leonid achieves world recognition
At the Annual General Meeting of the Royal South Australian Society of Arts held on Sunday 14 October 2018
Leonid was awarded a FELLOWSHIP DIPLOMA.
This award is recognised throughout Australia and overseas.
Leonid’s Fine Art Photograph, 'Victoria Square Adelaide 1956'
has found a permanent home in the adelaide town hall
Sixty years ago Leonid Olijnyk was 21 years of age. He was employed by the Electricity Trust of SA. Together with his apprentice, Alan Cock, he was working in the substation in Post Office Place. Looking up he observed the 5AD Radio Transmission Tower on the top of the Advertiser building and said" Wouldn't it be great to climb that tower and get a photograph of Victoria Square?" To his surprise Alan said "My father is the Chief Electrical Engineer of 5AD and could arrange this for you, so bring your camera in tomorrow!"
As a result Mr. Cock kindly arranged to turn off the power to the Tower and transfer transmission to the Dry Creek Radio tower during lunch time.
Leonid with his Camera safely around his neck climbed the high tower the next day and captured this unique historic picture of Victoria Square immortalising a moment in time for the city of Adelaide!.
A framed copy of Leonid's remarkable 'Victoria Square, Adelaide 1956' was presented by Vikki Waller, President of RSASA to the Lord Mayor of adelaide, Martin Haese, to celebrate the 160th birthday of the Society.
For over sixty years Leonid continues to inspire and amaze all who enjoy his fine art collection.
One magical day Leonid was invited by celebrated photographer, Jan Dalman to enjoy a photographic session with The Australian Dance Theatre, directed by Elizabeth Dalman.OAM
The setting was a secluded park in the picturesque Adelaide Hills. The dancers were amazing, energetic, magical and in love with their art.
Leonid has captured all the emotion as the dancers performed oblivious to the photographer with one of his first Hasselblad Cameras focused on them.
.How fortunate we are to study these remarkable artists and their dance that will never be repeated again. Enjoy!.
